I have loved Channing Monroe all my life. In first grade, he asked for my Trapper Keeper. I hit him in the head with it. Third grade, we were best friends. We kissed in seventh grade. Eighth grade, he turned into a bad boy and the rest was a tumultuous storm. Growing up, the problem was never love for us. Bad times. Good times. This is Channing and Heather's story. When Heather says she has loved Channing all her life, she literally means just that, these two go way back to a time when they didn’t know how important of a role the other would play in their life. When Heather says she has loved Channing all her life, she literally means just that, these two go way back to a time when they didn’t know how important of a role the other would play in their life. He'd worked his way under my skin in the first grade. He'd declared us best friends in third. we'd held hands in fifth. We shared our first kiss in seventh, and he'd been a headache ever since. Though they do have a toxic, whiplash relationship always beating away in the background the one constant is their love for the other, where one ends the other begins, they were destined to be together, undeniable soul mates which started over a Trapper Keeper which we see in the 'Flash backs' the author has added. Their road is not clean sailing, it's full of many ups and downs that break them many times with undivided loyalties, he has his own crew which he's leader of and is tangled up in some underhanded dealings, then with stepping up and taking care of his sister these two things seem to be his main priority which leaves Heather last, she knows how it is but it does drive a wedge between them which is the main cause for their on and off again status. One would walk, the other would them them, they would go their separate ways, but then missing the other would sink in and they would find themselves back together again, not resolving their issues, and this was their pattern. I protect my town. I protect my crew. I try to protect my sister, and I am putting them all above you, and I am a complete asshole because of that. This was one of my most highly anticipated books of October so to say I was super excited to start it was an understatement, and Tijan did not disappoint, this was like a double loaded shotgun, everything came in double the dose to 'Crew' more drama, more angst, more heartbreak, more feels, more of everything, the author did not hold back!! Just a shame the cover was so hideous to look at!! 🤪

I have been a "Heather & Channing" fan, ever since I've read the "Fallen Crest High" series. Heather was actually the only female character, besides Sam, that I really truly liked. Sure Taylor wasn't so bad either, but she was no Heather or Sam....at least not to me ;) These two have balls of steel....especially Heather it seems !! They have shared all of their first together and they have had many of ups and downs.... We've found out about "Crews", and what they are exactly, in "Crew", which is the story about Channing's sister Bren. I strongly advice everyone to read that book first. It explains so much about what it means to be in a "Crew". It will definitely help you understand more about Channing and his lifestyle.... It will also help you understand more about his relationship with his sister.. This book takes us back to the beginning and we get glimpses of a much younger Heather and Channing.. It also takes us to the present, where these two are struggeling a bit...not with their love...but definitely with their priorities... Time to shit...or get of the pot ;)  I really enjoyed getting to know Heather and Channing... They were an awesome couple !! Samantha and Mason will always be my nr 1 "Tijan couple", but these two come in at a close second. Can't wait to see what's next. Oh....and I also loved the little extra bonus we got !! 4.5 stars WOWZER!!! This was an emotional read! And as always TIJAN delivered a spellbinding and thrilling novel. I must admit, Channing and Heather are one of my favorite couples ever since reading FCH. Channing is such a charismatic and mysterious guy. And Heather is KICK ASS!!!! She is a true bad ass woman. One that stands her ground and gives as good as she gets. I always wanted to know more about their backstory, and THE BOY I GREW UP WITH answered all of my questions. One that stands her ground and gives as good as she gets. I always wanted to know more about their backstory, and THE BOY I GREW UP WITH answered all of my questions. I'm so glad the author finally gave them their own story.  Heather and Channing's love story was EPIC. Emotional. Heartbreaking. And beautiful. But most of all it was never-ending. They fell in love in elementary school and that love never wavered. Not for her or him. And that's what I love about a romance. When love endures all kinds of hurtles, endures changes and years of growing up and becoming adults. Theirs was a deep and profound love. A once in a lifetime kind of love. Throughout the entire novel, the one thing that was constant was the friendship between Heather and Changing. They knew each other better than anyone else. Their relationship went through up and downs. It wasn't perfect, for from it, but it never was less than all consuming. They were like magnets, pulled towards each other, if they wanted it or not. The flashbacks had me laughing out loud. Those flashbacks were some of my most favorite parts of the story. Heather and Channing were hilarious as kids. Vibrant, and so very much like I would have imagined their younger selves to act around each other. Besides it being about their relationship, THE BOY I GREW UP WITH also felt like an amazing MC novel, without the bikes. But it had everything that I love about a MC novel. I really enjoyed that, because I haven't read a MC novel in a long time. And OMG the epilogue was wonderful - I hope the author will write future books about the next generation. Wow! Anyone that follows me knows that Tijan is one of my FAVORITE authors! October has become my all time favorite month because I get new books from them all and I'm lagging a bit from reading all the new books BUT...this has been my favorite so far. I have wanted this storyline for soooooooo long! Heather has always been my favorite kickass sidekick and she finally has her chance to shine! Of course mysterious Channing has always interested me but Heather is obviously the one I relate to. ;) Wow! Anyone that follows me knows that Tijan is one of my FAVORITE authors! Do not enter, do not pass go! You cannot fully appreciate the book otherwise. Truth! I would not lie to you. Now, this book is truly epic (in the words of my son). So many questions are answered and if you read Crew you get a little insight at what is to come. That's all I'm giving you. You have to buy the book to find out more! Till next time!

Finally!! Heather and Channing’s book! I feel like I’ve waited forever BUT I am petrified that I’m gonna hate it. I don’t trust Tijan anymore and her OTT melodrama is just too much for me....I’ll be waiting for some honest reviews. I already know Channing cheated in high school and Heather was with Logan so I’m doubting this will be safe....

To say I devoured this book is a gross understatement. I'm a huge fan of this series already. I love books that have storylines depicting relationships over time and this one does that. Some may have a preconceived notion going into this book thinking they know a bit of what happens with these two but not everything is as it seems. I will leave it at that. I loved both of these characters. Both were strong when they needed to be, both also showed vulnerability and as the storyline progressed and they grew older you could see that. I felt their feelings towards one another that unbreakable bond that they just couldn't ignore. Their connection was palpable. I can't wait for more from this series and I'm excited to see what's next.

So after reading “Crew”I was very curious to read about Channing and Heather. Channing is Bren’s older brother. The story alternated between past and present and we got both of their points of views. I enjoy being able to be in their heads and feel what they felt. Channing and Heather have a LONG history and if I’m being honest they both annoyed me to no end. They constantly kept repeating the same things over and over and over. I get that they are young but at some point you HAVE to grow up. Cl So after reading “Crew”I was very curious to read about Channing and Heather. Channing is Bren’s older brother. As the story progressed we get a revelation that shocked me and made me want Channing and Heather to figure things out even more. I also loved how this story gives you more of a back story on how the Crew’s got started. There were some intense moments and I’m finding this series to be very intriguing with a colorful cast of characters. I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series. *ARC Review*

Heather and Channing aren't without their issues and live in a world of Crew's where there's bloodshed, gang wars, territory wars and this is something Channing battles with, should he have heather, the girl he loves in the middle of it all? but at the end of the day their souls are tied and that's one thing they never win the fight against. Both Channing and Heather know they should be better apart, safer apart, but they have the kind of relationship were they are just meant to be, can't fight it, can't deny it. The story is told in the present then gives you a look into the past from the young age were Heather hated the boy who picked on her at school but she gave him a trapper keeper, from there their like hate/relationship blossomed. Trapper Keeper?, now this I had to look up, and good old Google enlightened me, I didn't have a clue what it was so I discovered in English terms its a file you put your school work in. This is a love story that spans over the years, the defined moments to the present. I have only read a few of the fallen Crest High series but believe Channing and Heather are mentioned or are a part of these books. Also Bren who is Channing's sister is also a big part of this story due to her being in Channing's care, Bren has her own story in the book Crew and having now read this I really want to read that too. In a nutshell once I got past all the Crew stuff which I didn't have a full understanding of and reading between the lines discovered they are a group of people who have each other, they are family and protect those around them also the town they live in, well Channing's Crew does anyway, so yes I couldn't get my head around this at first and it took me a bit to get into the book but once I did and once I focused mainly on the characters and their love story I loved it. The Boy I Grew up with is an epic love story, emotional, contains danger, has that MC romance feel about it, has highs and low's and it is so sizzling hot, Channing and Heather had burning chemistry between them. Great story that at times made my stomach flip. Can be read as a standalone, told in first person dual pov, leads to a heartwarming hea. The Boy I Grew Up With (TBIGUW) was another Tijan masterpiece. We get glimpses of pivotal moments in their lives and how they became "Channing and Heather" through flashbacks while also progressing their story from what we saw in Bren's book (Crew.) Heather & Channing have been such integral characters and so important to the storyline of this series and I feel like we have had second row seats to their journey and now we are finally able to watch their love evolve and grow from the front row! There was something about this book and these characters that was so different to the others in this series...their love story was raw and so fucking real! It was all consuming and overflowing with a connection that couldn't be denied! There are no words that could do this story justice! It was written to absolute perfection! I have never felt more in sync with two characters than I did with Heather & Channing. This was the book that filled in the gaps surrounding these two and one of the other things I loved about this one was learning about how the crew system came about and evolved in its own right. This book added another layer and dimension to Tijan's Fallen Crest Series! It was beauty in pain, it was the Rousseau Story that needed to be told, the dark to the light, the poor to the rich! It was everything that we never knew was missing from this series! It was perfection!

Wrongly or rightly, as one of favourite authors, I tend to hold Tijan to high standards. I also feel like this story has been a long time coming. So I was scared that maybe the story would lack some vital magic and out of all the books I've been waiting for, I really didn't want Heather's book to disappoint. My concern came from feeling like I knew these characters already and maybe Tijan wouldn't capture all the things I had hoped for. I'm so pleased to say my worries were all for nothing. Heather and Channing's story was a journey I lived completely through them. They told me their secrets, their lies, their lives and I felt raw throughout the whole book. This story was full to bursting with answers, understanding, passion and ferocity. If I explain the characters then I explain the story. Some books you read and love, feeling connected and all the good stuff that comes with a five star read, this was different. It was like this story WAS the characters... so you say 'well isn't every story the characters' simply, the answer is no. Some stories add perspective, give depth, manage a timeline. This story WAS them. It was raw, gritty, dirty, love, honesty, fear, selfishness, selflessness... this story WAS Heather and Channing. To truly understand what I mean you'll have to read it for yourselves. The story runs in the present, but dips into their past. The slight detours into their history were fantastically written. None of the snippets were overplayed or drawn out, we were only given just enough to explain a part of them which helped us to understand how entwined Heather and Channing truly are. I'm not going to say much more because you'll want to experience this yourselves, especially those Fallen Crest fans, who, like me, have probably been desperate for this book. I wish I could give this more than five stars.

The entire read was the biggest Tijan roller coaster ride I've ever encountered. My emotions rode those highs and lows, squealing with glee and gasping in panic. Heather's (and Channing's) story was incredible. Their love dating back to school yard days. That invisible string that kept them tied together no matter how badly they wanted to walk away from one another. No Crew, or rival, or loss could tear these two apart. Each loss they overcame and win they triumphed in, was tied to each other. I'm still reeling from the raw emotion with all the events, ups and downs and pure honesty that took place in a single book. Loving every moment of it, from beginning to end. This was hands down the most maturely natured story line from the Fallen Crest characters. Heather and Channing shared an unbreakable bond, seeded so deep in their pasts and future. You can't help but want these two to work out, to have a bright future and grow old together. The perfect Heroine and her unsung Hero. The epilogue was EVERYTHING. That's all I will say about that. I was provided an ARC of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

The book starts in the middle of their, oh so complicated relationship, whilst they are currently ‘not together’. The story takes us through their very tumultuous, yet emotional relationship from when they met in fifth grade to the present day. The synopsis says it all, so I won’t duplicate it in my review. I will tell you that this is one of my top reads this year, that the writing was perfect, and the story was full of passion, action, lots of drama, sexy times, and yes again, that word, emotion. I loved it. Also two different book covers, one for ebook, and one for paperback. I love them both. Oh, and that bonus scene! I almost missed it. Perfection. “He’d been “mine” in some form or another almost my whole life. To say our trek together had been one with upheavals, peaks, climaxes, and downfalls—that’d just be an understatement.” “I’m crew, and that’ll never change. And you’re in danger because you’re the woman I love. I’m sorry, I am. But that’ll never change either. I’ll never love someone like I love you. Don’t ask me to try.” As unbelievable as it may seem for me to tell you this, but Tijan is a New-to-me-Author. Of course, I have “He’d been “mine” in some form or another almost my whole life. Of course, I have heard of her, but the opportunity to read and review her work in the past just has not presented itself to me. I keep a tight blogging schedule and rarely get to just read whatever I want. That said, I was given the opportunity to include The Boy I Grew Up With on my blog and now I am completely KICKING myself for missing out on the sheer awesomeness of Tijan’s words!!! The Boy I Grew Up With is an incredible second chance romance. Its unique, sweet, and sexy. The story revolves around Heather and Channing, lifelong friends and lovers who’ve spent years breaking up and getting back together. “Heather kept thinking it was her choice to accept me and be with me, or not. But it wasn’t that simple. We were intertwined. There was no me without her. No her without me, so to do what I needed to do, I was going to rip us both apart.” “I spent the first part of my life trying to catch you. I’ve spent the last part trying to walk away.” The Boy I Grew Up With was a very heartfelt romance. Tijan’s writing is compelling and I was thoroughly entertained with the entire book. I felt incredible invested in the characters and their HEA. Also, I loved the dual perspectives as I always do—something about getting into a character’s innermost thoughts just really sells a romance for me. In The Boy I Grew Up With, Channing’s perspective particularly gutted me over and over again. And while I loved Heather, I was head-over-heels for Channing. His protective side, his sheer sexiness and the whit that his character introduced is what totally put this book over the top for me. Where I expected Channing to be the protector based on his upbringing and his role in the Crew, I wasn’t expecting Heather to be every bit as fierce. Yet she was. And you have to appreciate a female protagonist who is smart, loyal, sassy and spunky. Heather took no shit off anyone even when it endangered her own safety. The romance was well laid out, and very easy to follow. Additionally, while it is my understanding that readers of Tijan’s Fallen Crest High series have encountered Heather and Channing and their relationship in previous books, you can read The Boy I Grew Up With as a standalone without feeling like you are missing critical parts of the story. Heather and Channing’s romance spans a lifetime, starting when they were just kids and continuing through devastating hardships that would have destroyed any lasting chance at a happily ever after for most couples. Yet, Heather and Channing persevere despite the angst. Their relationship is sweet and sexy. As intense and angsty as the story was, I wouldn’t change anything about it. I highly recommend The Boy I Grew Up With and cannot wait until I have another opportunity to read Tijan’s work. Excerpt: “This was our pattern, around and around. One long fucking circle. Something bad happened. I walked. She walked. One of us walked, and the other let ‘em. We’d go our separate ways, start missing each other, and get back together. It was a goddamn cycle that had to stop. Somehow. …the other part of the cycle. I would hurt, or she would hurt, and the other would come. I was a selfish asshole. If I was hurting, sometimes I didn’t have the strength to keep her away. I did that time. She thought I’d cheated, and I let her. That was the first time I let her go.” 4.5 STARS Read and Reviewed on behalf of:

4.5 Stars! Review by Lisa Kane I loved the entire Fallen Crest series but couldn't help but wonder about Channing and Heather's story. Heather has pulled away numerous times from her Roussou life and has moved on to life with the Fallen Crest gang. But her bar Manny's is her life and she will always have her roots in Roussou. Channing has always known he wasn't good enough for her (and I have to say there are a lot of times that he really isn't the man she deserves!) and so he pulls away from her too. "I spent the first part of my life trying to catch you. I've spent the last part trying to walk away." Just kill me now with that line.... Expect your eyes to get wet. There are a few parts that are just heartbreaking in this story. But there are lots of complicated crew activities. I have to say I skimmed over some of that...I am more interested in the emotions of the characters than what gang is trying to elbow it's way into Roussou territory. But the heart of the story is Heather and Channing's stories. They have to struggle through so much bad to get to the good with each other. Loved it!

Something about this back and forth couple intrigued me and I wanted more! It's been a long wait and way overdue. Finally, Heather and Channing's story is here, and let me tell you what. It's even more emotional and gutsy than what I expected it would be! Hello book hangover, so we meet again... The Boy I Grew Up With takes us on a journey from the very beginning of their relationship, stemming all the way back to the second grade where Heather smacked Channing with a Trapper Keeper, to the present of their relationship, where heavy obstacles are thrown at the ride or die couple. These two have been through everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING. Every damn time I read a book written by TIJAN, I always fall into the dark abyss that is the horrible book hangover stage. That is why I waited until the last possible moment to read The Boy I Grew Up With. Having anticipated Heather and Channing's book from the start I knew, I would fall into that abyss. This novel is simply captivating. My only suggestion is to start this book in the morning, and precisely on a day where you have nothing planned. I was swept away from start to finish. I laughed, I cried, and there were even times I wanted to throw my kindle across the room. It was pretty much a war of emotions, but I wouldn't have it any other way.  Find me here: The Staircase Reader Instagram Facebook Twitter

Channing and Heather had a hard time staying away from each other through the good and bad times. But when would Heather come first? Was it time for Channing to make or choice or would she need to walk away from the boy she grew up with? “I had the woman I loved in my arms. She was safe. She was hurting. And I could never let that happen again. That’s all. My arms tightened around her. I never wanted to let her go.” Omg! I’ve been dying for a Heather and Channing book and it was everything I wanted and more! Soul mates from third grade until their forever. Swoon! I loved after the rocky road these two had with all of their ups and downs that they still gravitated to each other. Plus the strong theme of family and friends in all of the Fallen Crest series just pulses throughout Heather and Channing’s book. Loyalty and taking care of your own is one of their core values. Channing had taken on protecting his people from such a young age and that privilege and sometimes burden wasn’t something he wanted to let go. I thought I knew what was going to happen with these two but there were definitely some things that came up that surprised me. Heather really was a lot stronger than even I realized. I loved this story and definitely missed my Fallen Crest family. It was a great addition to my favorite characters/series.

I had pre conceptions about this couple and what i expected, but i can tell you, nothing is what it seems and everything will have you emotionally wrapped in a book that will leave you changed!! We see their growth from youth to adult, and i for one just couldn't get enough. Their up's and their down's, their sweet swoony moments and their hearts on the line. It's so much more than a coming of age romance, this couple deal with so much, Channing just tore my heart out, this man spent his life wanting nothing but to do whatever was best for Heather. They faced life head on, but no matter what, their connection was never going to be broken. Through good and bad and their push and pull, emotionally my heart was beating right along with theirs. I loved seeing Heather's emotional side, and i was captivated at her strength. I cannot even begin nor do i want to give you details, because IT REALLY IS THAT GOOD!!! I physically felt their bond, right down to my toes, I felt their pain right through my heart. If you think you knew Channing and Heather, think again because this book will give you a whole new meaning to falling in love with your book Hero's! And i have to mention... at the end, your life becomes complete again when we catch up with some little suprises !!! I also loved Heather and how strong she was in the novel. She wasn’t a damsel in distress and knew when to look after herself when needed. I loved how loyal she was to her brother and to Channing, and I just loved her character so much! Also, I loved seeing the vulnerable sides of the characters in the story. Heather and Channing have a lot of history between them, and it was nice to see that reflected in this story. To me, it just made them more real in my mind. I especially loved seeing Channing’s vulnerable side – it gave more dimensions to his character. And the flashbacks... loved them! It was nice to read the history between them, how they first reacted to how their relationship progressed the older they got. And finally, I loved the ending so much! I’m not going to spoil it for you, but the ending of TBIGUW made my heart flutter so much and I absolutely loved it! The Boy I Grew Up With is an absolute hit! All I wanted to do was escape reality and keep on reading and never let Heather and Channing go. It’s no fairy tale, but it's their story, and it suits them very well. Brilliant!

Channing has always been a bit of an enigma.  He shows up when things go wrong, stepping in to set things right, and to protect his people.  I've always wanted more from him and we finally got it!  Channing is everything you expected him to be and so much more.  While I didn't always like him throughout this book I did admire him and could understand the hard decisions he made to keep his family safe. This book was packed full of action, drama, and yo-yoing emotions that kept you fully immersed in this book from start to finish.  The brief chapters that jumped back to the past and showed us how Heather and Channing's relation began and grew really helped round out the story.  Fans of Tijan will love every second of this book and it will leave you anticipating the next Crew book for another glimpse into these character's lives.

Heather Jax is a character that had me in knots. In Fallen Crest Series she wasn't my favorite character. She's too. Too independent, too prickly, too bitter. And now I learned why. Heather and Channing are friends first and foremost, lovers at a second. They know each other since forever, are very close and their story starts over a Trapper Keeper. They're living in different worlds - her in Fallen Crest with his milllionaires, Channing Monroe in Roussou and with their criminals. He's the leader of his own crew, is tangled up in underground fighting, some illegal business, violence. He's a hard man who cares foremost for his crew, then his sister and at the third place is Heather. Heather is tired and disappointed by Channing, feels left out, left behind. They have their upheavals, peaks and downfalls, again and again, break up, can't stay away, make up. Seems like they're toxic fior each other. Actions are easy, feelings difficult. The Boy I Grew Up With is a story that gave me all the feels. I laughed, I cried and at some point I was angry at the characters. I read the book a few days ago and had to stew a few days till I could write this review. I repeat, Heather wasn't my favorite person and still isn't. But her story captivated me from the beginning and I couldn't not read the book. I had to know what happens to her and Channing, Bren and her crew. The Boy I Grew Up With contains a bonus chapter of the Fallen Crest family and I greatly, greatly enjoyed reading about them. I recommend the book and give 5 stars.
