While I enjoyed Rainbow Rowell's first volume a lot, this second volume was AMAZING! She's really not afraid to move these characters in new directions and mix up their relationships. The first volume was basically going back to the roots of the team, but this one is moving them forward, and I'm loving where they're all going. I can't wait to see where Rowell takes them next! 5/5 stars, and definitely a worthy continuation of the original comics.

I'm living in Scotland for a few months, which means I can buy the issues right when they come out, instead being a month behind on everyone else because of shipping. Good thing, too, because I need to find out what happens next ASAP. It's gonna be great.

4.5 stars. I think having the characters be a little older really works. They're a little more matured, and more rational about a lot of things. All the while still being the characters we love. PS: Thank you Rainbow Rowell, for writing a Chase Stein I actually enjoy reading.

3.5/5 It was a fun and engaging read but still it was lacking something for me. I love the rebuilding Victor plot and random appearances of the Doombot, how the Runaways are trying to be a family even though they've been apart for long... While I love how Karolina and Nico's relationship is developing, it got a little spoiled for me how it was intertwined with Julie's plot. I'm not really sure about Gert and her developments in that area, though. But I need to say I adore Kris Anka's style – he's the perfect artist for this series. It's still an enjoyable read but still not totally in love with it.

[Read in single issues] What a fantastic volume! I never read past the third volume of the original Runaways series so I know there's a lot of history with there characters that I don't know. She acknowledges that these characters have a deep, rich history and uses that to her advantage by weaving a story that both old and new readers will appreciate. This is definitely one of my favorite titles coming out of Marvel and it will always be on my pull list.

Nothing earthshaking is going on here, but I like these characters, and it makes me happy to read about them hanging out with each other.

[Read as single issues] The band may be back together, but that doesn’t mean that they’re playing in harmony. With tensions running high and every member of the Runaways coping with their everything-old-is-new-again situation differently, it’s only a matter of time before things explode. All it takes is a surprise visit from Karolina’s girlfriend and a magical age-defying cupcake, not to mention Doctor Doom, and the Runaways fragile family bonds may fracture before they’ve even unpacked their bags. Best Friends Forever is a clever little arc. Rainbow Rowell does a bait and switch, making it as if the main plotline she introduces is going to be the most important one, but it actually impacts one of the subplots even moreso and becomes something entirely different by the end of the four issues. The character interactions remain absolutely top notch; I’ve never seen anyone get these characters as well as she does since Brian Vaughan created them and that’s high praise indeed. The way she threads in previous continuity like Avengers AI and Julie and Karolina’s relationship is perfectly pitched so that it nods to past stories without confusing new readers, and the voices she gives the characters are all so distinct, and yet so effortlessly done. The true masterpiece of this volume though is probably the last two issues, two one-and-dones that deal with the aftermath of Best Friends Forever while focusing more on the individual characters than the whole group. Issue 11 brings Gert into the spotlight for the first time properly since she was brought back to life, and how she copes with both the new dynamic between her and the other characters and her and the rest of the world now that things have changed is again practically perfect. Meanwhile issue 12 looks at Karolina and Nico, picking up some plot threads that Brian Vaughan left hanging and running with them fantastically, before ending on a gut-punch of an ending that I didn’t expect to come into play just yet. Of course, I can’t leave out Kris Anka. His eye for design makes all of these characters look like real people, in real clothing, and there’s no effort spared in any issue to make sure that they’re wearing new, always appropriate outfits. He does so much with so little, and his facial expressions are absolutely amazing – you’ve never seen a deinonychus look as expressive as Old Lace does here, and even with some help from Craig Yeung and Triona Farrell in place of his usual inker (himself) and colourist (Matt Wilson), this book doesn’t miss a beat on the art front either. I cannot stop singing the praises of Runaways. From the story to the characters to the art to the respect for what came before, it’s literally doing everything right. If there was a rating higher than five stars, I’d be giving it out. Runaways is the perfect comic book, and I don’t think I’ve ever said that about any comic ever.

A better arc than the last, as the Runaways have finally gotten the band back together and are ready to go on adventures again. But of course, Karolina's girlfriend, who for some reason IS NOT NICO? shows up and ruins everything. Chase and Nico become parents. Victor gets a vacuum. A certain doom-y friend shows up looking sharp. Molly makes a friend. Gert and Old Lace... just chill I don't really remember what they did. I want to eat this comic because it looks so pretty.

Rating of 4.5 The Runaways, Chase, Gert, Karolina, Nico, Victor, Molly and Old Lace are finally back together and living in one of their parents’ old hideouts. While most of the team have grown up since the last time they were all together, this does not mean that they have their lives together. Each of the Runaways has their issues to deal with, be it Gert’s recent return to life after several years of being dead, Karolina’s relationship problems or Victor’s current existence as a disembodied head. The only one who appears to have their life even remotely together is the team’s youngest and at times wisest member, Molly, who is enjoying her time in middle school. But even Molly is having problems, as she is faced with a hard choice and must consider whether she actually wants to grow up. As Molly deliberates over the dilemma presented to her, a barrage of other arrivals impact on the Runaways. Karolina’s girlfriend, Julie Power of Power Pack fame, is in town, which causes significant drama for Karolina and Nico, while Dr Doom has apparently appeared on their doorstep, determined to find Victor. Can a team rife with squabbles, drama and internal strife come together to face the problems before them, or will their significant changes be too much to bear? Runaways is still one of my favourite Marvel series and after the revamp earlier this year, previously these fantastic characters are still going strong. In this second volume, Rowell, Atkins and their creative team continue to produce some outstanding and emotional stories that are based more on the relationships between the main characters than the traditional crime-fighting storylines contained within other comics. While they do go up against a couple of superpowered opponents within this story, none of these antagonists is truly evil, and their motivations and history are a lot more morally ambiguous than some of the previous Runaways stories. The creative team do a fantastic job of blending highly emotional storylines with a bunch of fun and heart-warming sequences, filled with random and funny elements, such as an errant Doombot. This all comes together into one fantastic overall story that hits all the right buttons. Click link for full review: https://unseenlibrary.com/2018/11/28/... As I said in my review of volume 1, I'm really liking the new Runaways, and how obvious it is that Rainbow Rowell loves the characters and wants to explore their relationships to each other. I like that so far both of the "villains" have been Molly-focused, but it'll be interesting to see how the group develops when they reach a problem that can't be tackled under the guise of taking care of their youngest member. There's not as much narrative cohesion between issues as I'd like, but I really do love these characters, and I'm in love with Kris Anka's work, particularly the character designs and the outfits. Looking forward to reading more.

So good! But I can imagine being super lost if I was not already familiar with most of the guest appearance characters and continuity between Vaughn's Runaways and Rowell's volumes. Anyway, I will read everything that Rainbow Rowell writes, indiscriminately, and I just happened to luck out that she is writing some of my favorite characters in the Marvel Universe.

(read as single issues) Yessss, I knew the first arc of the new Runaways would be a little rough because there was a lot of heavy lifting to do to get this reboot in place, but now Rainbow Rowell is coming into her FULL POWERS as an author who writes the kind of ADORABLE SHIT I LIKE.

The gang's all back, including the head of Victor, but everyone's still not quite back to being BFFs again. Gert isn't quite sure if Chase still feels the same, since their age difference is even more than it was before she died. Karolina has a girlfriend, Julie, but then there's Nico... and Molly has a new best friend, who gives her the opportunity to stay young forever, and all her pre-adult friends are currently wishing they were back to an age with no responsibilities. After having read the original run of Runaways, I really enjoyed how this run focuses on the emotional relationships between the characters. The story doesn't shy away from Gert's weight or Karolina and Nico being attracted to each other, and I was pretty happy that certain things like Karolina's ex-fiance's gender didn't come up. I hadn't expected Victor to come back but he was a lot of fun. It's weird to me to recognize the influence of Rainbow Rowell from her other stories and I love this just as much as any of those (well, okay, I probably love Eleanor and Park and Fangirl a bit more). I also really love the art.

Oh! That ending! What a twist! Another I really enjoyed in Rainbow Rowell's Runaways. And that's not a bad thing, necessarily, but certain plot elements - and certain relationships - becoming canon in the comics now, after they became so popular due to the television show, are kind of starting to rub me the wrong way. This book ends with a revelation that isn't all that shocking if you've kept track of the Runaways during that period where they didn't have a book and were all guest-starring in other books, but it does feel a little forced when you take the show (which has obviously brought new fans to the series) into consideration. Still, this was pretty solid, and I can't wait to see how the next book ends.

Vol 1 was a bit slow, but this volume (nr 2) really picks up the pace. It's fun and a bit emotional (in a good way) at times. The best part is the interaction between the characters.
