I’ve read a lot of books by ‘bravolebrities’. Some were really good (Kate Chastain’s Lucky Charming) and some were unreadable (Erika Jayne’s Pretty Mess). This was by far the best. Even if I wasn’t a fan of Below Deck I would’ve still enjoyed this book immensely. Full of funny, interesting tales of a career at sea, this book starts with explaining how Captain Lee got there. With a sea captain on the front cover, I guess one should expect a bit of sailor's cursing. Captain Lee did not disappoint. Along with tales of debauchery, drugs and drunkenness, this book should stay safely on the adult shelf. However, do not let that keep you from reading about an average guy thrust into the spotlight of television. Expecting stories from the show, I was surprised to find this as more of a life lessons book that doesn't even hint at the show until the last chapter. Overall, an enjoyable and quick read that may give you a little perspective into the lives of people you wouldn't normally glimpse. * I received a free copy of this book from Goodreads giveaways *

Below Deck is my guilty pleasure. Captain Lee only covers the show in one small chapter but his life is so interesting it didn't matter. Plus it was a really quick read, when I had time to read. :-)

4.5 Stud of the Sea Stars Running Against the Tide: True Tales from the Stud of the Sea was a very fun and enjoyable read by Captain Lee. His life starts out in Indiana and with an unexpected change of events, he and his wife, end up in Turks and Caicos. He is ready for a change from the Midwest and he talks his wife into a big move to paradise. What do they have to lose? Who wouldn't want to move to paradise? What can go wrong? Or does it all go right? This book is full of interesting and funny stories about his life and those around him. Readers will get to read about how he unexpectedly fell in love with boats and wanted to become a Captain out on the sea. I found this to be an entertaining and quick read, where you can escape and laugh about his escapades and anecdotes. Captain Lee charms you while reading about his life and how he got to the point that he's at now. I will admit that I wanted a bit more of the Below Deck scoop but I do understand that this book is more about how he became the famous Captain Lee and made it onto the show. A big thank you to Gallery Books and Simon & Schuster for the review copy of this great book.

Everything you want to know about maintaining a yacht. I loved the television series Below Deck. However if you are looking for any correlations between the show and this book think again. This read like and introduction to sailing manual. It's also just about Captain Lee. Can't help but wonder how his wife fended for herself being on foreign ground. It seems that Captain Lee would pull up anchor and be on some fairly lengthy trips. His ego pretty much sums it up as he refers to himself as Stud of the Sea.

I won a copy of this book on Goodreads giveaway. This was an interesting memoir of the life of Captain Lee. I just love how Captain Lee is a no nonsense, tell it like it is, authentic person. That is what made me excited to read this book to begin with and it didn't disappoint. I normally don't read books by reality stars, because frankly their life just doesn't interest me enough to want to read about them. Integrity on the high seas Captain Lee has more character and integrity in his pinky finger than most people I’ve met. This book should be mandatory reading for those who feel entitled to anything good in this life. Hard work and integrity are the keys to living your dream, at least in my opinion. It is so refreshing to read about a successful man with integrity. I watch the Bravo show, Below Deck and I’m grateful to learn about yachting as that’s as close as I’ll probably ever get to a yacht. Captain Lee is a great story teller and "Running Against the Tide: True Tales from the Stud of the Sea" is not only fun to read but also to relate to how one can live to be true self. Captain Lee definitely has some real good tips to share about how to tackle difficulties, challenges and dilemmas in his memoir. Many of us may enjoy sailing on a yacht or a cruise but have little or no knowledge of what makes a comfy, glamorous and satisfying sailing experience from behind the scenes or "under the Captain Lee is a great story teller and "Running Against the Tide: True Tales from the Stud of the Sea" is not only fun to read but also to relate to how one can live to be true self. A quick, fun read with interesting stories of Captain Lee's life. Yet, the book was also somewhat disappointing. Captain mentioned he had 5 children in the beginning, but it would have been nice to learn how his career affected his family. It would have also been nice to learn how Captain grew up, and how fame has changed his life (financially, socially, etc). Finally, there was an article in the newspaper how Captain Lee declared bankruptcy at one point-it would have been interesting to read ab A quick, fun read with interesting stories of Captain Lee's life. This was a really good book. I enjoy the show "Below Deck" on Bravo and reading Captain Lee's back story was great. This is a man that I would love to grab a sandwich with. His take on so many things is the same as my hubby and I and the whole way through the book is was reading parts to him (my hubby, not Captain Lee) I would love to hear more from this man....maybe he'll have to share more stories someday.

Captain Lee From being a huge fan of Below Deck, I was super excited to read this book from Captain Lee (who I live on the show). He did not disappoint at all. This was a fast read and well written I liked learning about his experiences before being in the show and how he got there.

4.5 stars. This is a quick fun read. I loved all the stories. I laughed out loud several times and would end up telling my husband all about it. It is written just as he talks on the show - with no filter! The only thing I was wanting was a little more was about the show and behind the scenes. Great book!

Was not sure I would like this book. I know about the tv how but have never watched it. What a pleasant surprise--I loved this. It's sort of like an autobiography with lots of intriguing and interesting true stories. I'm not sure how he survived to become a licensed captain. And how he became the star of the show was enlightening. Very enjoyable read and I recommend to every one.

Loved it! Getting the backstory on someone you admire is always welcome, but with Cappy Lee, it’s a hoot to boot. Funny, honest and illuminating look at life on the high seas, from sailboat, to casino scowl, to mega-yacht. Engaging, enjoyable and entertaining. Good man. Good book.

Fun read! This was an eye opening book! Capt. Lee allows us in on a few of the reasons he became a captain of a yacht, his run-Ins with the Coast Guard and a little history of his life with Mary Ann. I respect him more for his work ethic, values and morals!

Great book. Every page sounded just like Captain Lee talking the way he does on the show. I enjoyed hearing about how he got started and some of the adventures he's had. If you like the show, you'll love this book! Thank you so much to Gallery Books for providing me with a review copy.

I thought the book was quite good. It makes me want to charter a boat, hire Captain Lee and take off for parts unknown. Unfortunately, I don’t have deep pockets so I’ll have to be content just reading about Lee’s adventures.

Didn’t make it through the 1st chapter when I put the book down because of the cuss words in the book. Disappointed that Captain Lee was unable to convey his message without it being littered with bad language. Thought he was smarter than that.

Fun, interesting read especially if you watch the Bravo show Below Deck. I just wish he’d gone more into getting on the show and that first season. Here’s hoping to another book “Running with the Crazy Yachties”! Lol
